Pet Peeves

We all have them, those little things other people do that make us want to scream and tear out our hair.

I'm a very easy going person. I don't anger easily, and I get over my anger at something or someone quickly. But there are some things that push my hot buttons the wrong way. Since I always feel better when I vent, here are some of my nasty little pet peeves.

Leaving the shopping cart in the middle of the aisle. I don't like to move someone else's cart, especially a woman's when there's a purse in it. I'm always afraid she'll think I'm stealing her wallet. But sometimes I don't have a choice. While she's standing there, trying to decide which one of forty different detergents to buy, I have things to do. Get out of my way!

Not giving a turn signal. I'm coming out of a parking lot, patiently waiting for the approaching car to pass so I can be on my way. Does the car pass? No, it turns into the lot right next to me without giving a signal. And 95% of the time, it's a man driving. What is it with guys and no turn signals? Do they belong to the same club as guys who don't ask directions or read instructions? (No offense, guys, but I call' em as I see 'em.)

Whooshing by me on the highway only to pull in front of me and slow down to the same speed I'm driving. What is the point of that? I drive a Kia Optima. It isn't a big car. If I was in a big honkin' SUV or a diesel pickup, I could understand wanting to get around me to be able to see better. My little car isn't much of a hindrance to seeing what's coming.

You probably see my pattern. It's the lack of courtesy and simple manners that gets to me. It all boils down to one thing--treat me the way you want to be treated.

Now that I've vented and feel better, tell me what pushes your hot buttons.

Lynn

Mine are people who don't park their cars straight in the parking spot...drives me nuts. I also hate the rude drivers who don't slow down in the rain knowing that the roads are in bad condition and making it more dangerous for everyone, and finally when my family members eat the last of something or drink the last of something and don't put it on the grocery list to buy!

PARENTS WHO DO NOT TEACH THEIR CHILDREN GOOD HYGIENE!!!

Lynn's post gave me pause. I have to agree with everything she listed. So, I thought out of my pet peeves, which one did I REALLY want to comment on. Hey, my title says it all!!! I know this couple, one which has a really nice house, well kept yard, and keeps the interior clean. They themselves are always neat - hair, clothes, teeth... BUT, they have a 14 year old son that looks like they just swing by and pick him up at some corner. His hair is always greasy, (smells greasy too) and now that he's going through puberty, he has quite the odor about him. Good lord! Do these people not smell him at the supper table??? Do they not encourage their son to shower? Wrinkled clothes and dirty tenners I can understand. Kids are kids. But in this day and age, there is no reason whatsoever for people to stink of body odor. Hell, my kids used to drive me crazy because they were in the shower once or twice a day!!! I take back every bitch about having to wait for the hot water heater to recoup so I could shower! LOL Okay...off my soapbox! Good post, Lynn. I think a lot of us share the same 'peevers".

I agree with all of the comments so far. So, I'll add my peeve about people who gather in the middle of the store aisle to gossip without giving a thought to anyone else and they really get perturbed when you say 'excuse me.' People who talk on the phone while they drive and weave back and forth - that ones scares the you-know-what outta me. Along the same thought line as Ruby's. I have horrible allergies and there's nothing worse than when some person - woman or man - passes me in the store and I lose the ability to catch my breath. Please, people, a little dab'll do ya. You do not have to take a bath in eu de skunk before you leave the house. A little hot water and soap will remove most body odors. No need to cover it up. I could go on forever, but...

Yep, lame parents chap my hide every time. I can't stand the ones who hang back ignoring their "angels" who are terrorizing others on the playground, or ones who teach their children to be rude.

Yep, Lynn...you nailed several of mine. The only thing I'd add is "willful stupidity". These are people who have every opportunity and yet choose to ignore facts and remain ignorant. Unfortunately, this group of people is usually opinionated as well. Loudly.

LOL Those are the exact same things that make me roll my eyes to the heavens. I live in a city where over half the population doesn't seem to know what the turn signal in their car if for. It's maddening.

My pet peeves...oh let me count'em!
You ladies have hit on a whole lot of them.
One of mine is people talking over me. There are whole days when I'm convinced I must be invisible! And I'm 5'9" and...oh, never mind the weight thing! Anyway, I HATE it when I'm trying to make a point and someone starts talking as if I'm not there!

Lynne, you nailed it. but I have to add Family members who live in the same house with you but can't help with the chores. I do have to say that after a week at RT, I did come home to a semi-clean house. very surprised but learned that my DH with the bad back did most of it. :)

Lynn--I think we must be sisters. My pet peeves are similar. What pushes my hot button is lack of courtesy.

My BIGGEST pet peeve? Grrr, this one really gets me going. It's neighbors who walk their dogs on their neighbors lawns instead of walking their dogs on their own properties. To me, that is the height of rudeness. Picking up after the dog is expected, but why walk across the street for the dog to relieve himself? Makes no sense and is totally UNneighborly.

Whew! Thanks for the vent!

Best--Adele Dubois
